Ike needs some help!

Hi Chuck:

My name is Jim Mondoro, I am very good friends with Cassandra. Cassandra has become a very close friend of ours as she was instrumental in getting us Ike.

Ike, you might remember was a rescued dog from MS and was put up for adoption in LA through the SPCA.  We found Ike at one of our regular trips to Petsmart in Metairie, LA where we ran into both Cassandra and subsequently, Ike.  My partner Keith and I fell madly in love with him, and he has been a big part of our family since March of last year (2008).  I  have attached some recent (today) pictures of Ike for your enjoyment.  He is a good boy, and we both love him with all our hearts...he is a sweetie.

Anyhow, recently Ike had to make a trip to the vet for some problems that he was having with his right rear paw.  He was babying the paw and couldn't stand on it so we took him to get a check up by the vet.  She found that he has bilateral knee displacements which apparently is a defect that he has had from birth, however, will require reconstructive knee/tibial surgery.  We are in the process of attempting to obtain pet insurance to help defray the some of the cost which is now is estimated into the thousands ($5K +/-).  Cassandra thought it would be a good idea to send you out an email, and also call you to see if you could help.

My partner Keith and I have been displaced from our home in New Orleans due to a job loss in 2006.  Since Katrina we have moved a couple of times because the work I do is no longer available in New Orleans, so we were forced to move away.  Our plan is to go back home, and obtain work doing ANYTHING that will bring us back to our home and our city.  Right now we are staying in a house in Indianapolis and are renting our home in New Orleans out to a couple from North Carolina.  That lease ends in Oct, and we're really happy to report that we're doing all we can to go back home...no pun intended....come hell or high water!! Ike and our cats took the move to Indy pretty well, although we all had a problem with winter!!!  :o(

OK, well I have gone on long enough...Cassandra thought you might have some thoughts as to how we could raise some funds to get Ike his surgery...he is on meds now that have "put the immediate fire out", but the surgery is imminent.  Thanks so much for listening (reading) and I look forward to hearing from  you.

My best,

Jim & Keith   Ike, Ali, JJ and Priscilla too!!

Got some extra cash to help out IKE!!!  Please email Jim & Keith to let me know that you are thinking of them and Ike and that you would  like to contribute.  The email is:

Sandi Coy is back at it again:

Still abusing and neglecting dogs......Some things never change for this POS.

She is abusing dogs and neglecting dogs...again.  "Officials removed 11 pit bulls from their property - leaving nearly 50 dogs behind.."
This crap has to stop.  The state of Kentucky should pull her Nursing License and she and her husband
jailed for a long time..  She is a danger to all the animals she comes in contact with and is a disgrace
to all animal rescuers.

For those of who are not in the loop about this miserable excuse scroll down the page and check it out. She was tried
in Larue County and was told that she could not have any animals. She moved across the county line so that she could
(don't you just love the South and how each county is a country unto itself?) continue to hoard and abuse dogs. Go to
this link for the latest escapade:
Take the time to read and follow the links on the above page.

The Larue County prosecutor and judges REALLY screwed this one up and allowed her to go free with a legal slap on the wrist. Now dogs have died again and have been abused. She claims that she is "rescuing", but from what??? I think that being humanely euthanized is a far better fate than being tethered, starved and frozen or cooked to death. I am sick as hell about this. She and her husband will be in court again on the 22nd of July @ 3pm for "pre-trial" (again) and scheduled court for 7th of August, 2009 @ 9am, but knowing the last time....they will find some shyster to have the thing continued and continued. She now lives in Franklin County and hopefully the prosecutor will have the balls (or equivalent) to do something about this POS.  They have been able to drag this out....Guess they just don't want us to show up to give them the support these POS's deserve!

She lives at 3387 St. Johns Road  and Derick Rayborn lives at 4010 St. Johns Road it just doesn't get any more cozy.  Two abuser/neglectors so close together.....Wonder why????

Who are these lovely citizens?  Can you guess who has been helping these people out?????

These are some thugs that Sandi Coy supports.  Please read their story and make your own judgment as to their character. Why does a person who allegedly is the head of an organization that is named "Responsible Dog Owners of Eastern States" support, collect money for them (she did for Terry "T.L." Williams the second from left).  Why would she herself get busted for a second time for animal abuse?  Why does she hang around known dog abusers and fighters????  Why does this POS keep getting away with it????  Click on the pictures above to get the story on this.

It was nice to see that Best Friends got duped by this guy because they chastised HSLA about their dealings with Tammy Hanson .  To their credit (and they have lots of $$$$) they sued and pursued him.  HSLA should have done the same to Sandi Coy.  It would not have gotten the dogs back, but it would have taken her out of play for awhile.

What was he guilty of that made someone want to kill him?

There was no re-rescue for Linus.  That IS unfair.

He needs justice for what was done to him and others.

NOTE: At Tylertown no chain around his neck. No padlock. No filth or squalor.

R.I.P Linus

b. New Orleans, LA, d. Hodgenville, KY

It is the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln.

Hodgenville, KY is where Sandi Coy lived.

Linus, the true Camp Katrina mascot, was finally laid to rest in a peaceful field with the cows close by. How ironic since he used to watch the cows in Tylertown. Those were the best days of his whole life, those days spent at Camp Katrina, watching the cows, sitting on top of his doghouse while squeaking his pink squeaky toy, and everyone laughing all over the place because they could hear Linus squeaking in the background from all over the camp. Our beloved Linus who we had to constantly put sunscreen on his nose because he was always sitting in the sun by his fence when the Camp Katrina folks were close by, in hopes that he could get some attention. And, Linus with his ridiculous flirting with Jane.

Another fine piece of work was sentenced (July 12, 2008) in Gary, Indiana.

He is (was) a firefighter and a dogfighter!

Click Here for the story about this "man" dedicated to saving lives is from the NWI Times.

More Pictures and Story at Through Their Eyes, The National Animal Abuse Registry

What is sad is that his fellow firefighters supported him throughout the trial. They after all, share a "house" a few days a week.  Hopefully an investigation into the rest of his co-workers in his "house" will yield some more guys dealing in dogs. Thankfully this guy is NOT typical of the great work and service firefighters and paramedics do on a daily basis throughout the country.

Here are the four hero's who did NOT make it back from Sandi Coy's and the one who died later (Jane).

A tribute to their precious souls!

We will NEVER forget!

Canine Angels, 2006 Stories and pictures are back!

Dewy Rose, Georgia was the scene during 2006 when animal rescue was called in to assist in the care and the adopting out of the many animals on the approximately 19 acre site.   What started out for these women as the only shelter in the area grew to enormous proportions.  The local animal control as well as citizens  continually dropped off animals for them to care for.  Look at the pictures and the stories.   Cassandra K. was on site for several months and was able to find homes for the vast majority of the animals there. Without the many volunteers (Katrina Alumni mostly) this would not have been able to be as successful as it was.

Mark & Shannon Martin

(Winn-Dixie  Rescue in N.O.)

To Get Hurricane Hero Award from HSLA during the unveiling of the statue dedicated to the lost pets of Hurricane Katrina/Rita on August 29th 2008.  Mark Martin started the Winn-Dixie site in the 9th Ward shortly after Katrina hit.  Were it not for his extreme dedication and determined nature, many more lives would not have been saved.  He has been my hero since I met him on September 12, 2005 at the Winn-Dixie.  He looked tired, but focused.  The picture above was taken at Dewy Rose, GA during the Kat 5 rescue at the Canine Angels Site.  Far different from the conditions at the Winn-Dixie (concrete, no water, etc.), but a rescue nonetheless.

Mark and Shannon gave up much to foster the rescue of pets in New Orleans.  Their work helped saved thousands of animals who might not have gotten a second chance.  Thanks!  Click on the picture below to see a collage of Winn-Dixie and related pictures from my first visit their, September 12, 2005 and my last January 1, 2006.  I did stop there in March of 2007 and bought a toothbrush (funny, I thought).

Tylertown History:

September 12, 2005 marked the first day that animal transports began to bring pets up from the Winn-Dixie in New Orleans.  Forty Seven dogs were brought up on that evening.  Here is a picture of the first transport group!

They all made it back in one piece and an awakening to what has continued to be the worst natural and man-made disaster in US history.

Puppy Mills

This the most disgusting act of animal abuse there is.  The problem is that breeder associations are against this legislation.  Kind of like the NRA being against ANY law that even slightly curtails the 2nd Amendment (eg. plastic bullets).

My state, Wisconsin does not protect animals per se, as it allows this horrendous mistreatment of animals to continue.  The last bill in the state was passed, but so watered down and the governor rendered that useless by not funding for enforcement. The cost of enforcement would NOT have come from the taxpayers, but from the license fees, etc. mostly from the breeders themselves.  A breeders lobby in the state (who also got in bed with the Amish and Mennonites who run huge operations) got the Governor to change the language of the law. I would call that responsible, wouldn't you????

One of our state legislators has reintroduced a bill, but it does NOT go far enough. It excludes the "backyard" breeders which account for the majority of the heartache.

This CRAP has to stop.

Wisconsin Pet Facilities Law

Information

Channel 4 Story and Video (Milwaukee TV station)

Wisconsin as an agricultural state should and must treat all animals with the respect that they deserve. Stop allowing the "breeders" to decide what is humane and what is not.  It is time to stop allowing the fox to watch the chickens.
