Gumbo, aka "Maytag" a Winn-Dixie rescue

This is the email send by Deb and Jarid Neff about his life post Katrina

After a great Sunday of riding in the car, visiting friends and helping Deb
celebrate her birthday Gumbo saw the news that both of his football teams had
lost over the weekend - the LSU Tigers to Alabama and the New Orleans Saints to
the Atlanta Flacons - being a Ninth Ward Cajun Katrina Rescue dog - those were
his favorite teams. The double loss was too much for him and his broken heart
gave out this morning and we had to put him down.

For all of you who got to know him you know first hand you know what a sweetie
he was and for  those who never met him - believe me when I tell you he was a
fighter -

37 days in a flooded house in New Orleans, survived -
copperhead snake bite between the eyes - survived -
congestive heart failure - diagnosed 2 years ago -
and he rode it out until yesterday.........

He will be missed -

sincerely,

I named him maytag at the winn dixie but when we got him home deb thought he was
pretty feisty - one day he started running full speed and dove through the
newspaper as i read it - it became his sunday trademark and we started calling
the flying sausage - andouille that is - and we had a cat named etouffee that we
rescued from an atlanta cajun eatery so we named maytag Gumbo the flying
 sausage.
he stole our hearts and and fit right in with our other 3 dogs and cat and we
could not believe it when the vet told us 3 years ago he had a birth defect that
would eventually take him from us.
i have rescued dogs since i was 10 years old and he was the BEST.

 we miss him everyday.
I have enclosed a few other photos - our christmas card from last year - all 4
of dogs, a photo from the winn-dixie, my fav photo of Gumbo with his toy and one
 him just chillin'
